Hornet baseball falls to Athens.
 

The Athens Wildcats scored 5 runs in the first inning to defeat the Wellsboro Varsity baseball team 10-2 on Friday, April 25.

The Wildcats pounded out two runs in the second and fourth innings and added an insurance run in the seventh to claim the victory. Sophomore James Mundy started on the mound, but only lasted an inning as he surrendered six runs (three earned) with four walks and two strikeouts on 50 pitches for the loss.

Sophomore Joe Allen came on in relief and gave up three runs in three innings of work before Senior Brandon Owlett struck out seven Wildcats and closed out the game.

Sophomore Dawson Prough led the Hornets, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles while Senior Dylan Prough also went 2-for-4 with a run batted in. Sophomore Nick Temper was 2-for-4 as well with a run scored.

Owlett and Allen both went 1-for-2 with Allen's hit a double. Owlett scored once while Allen knocked in a run.

The loss drops Wellsboro to 5-5 (2-2 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Monday, April 28 as they travel to Williamson.
