Hornets fall to Mansfield on walk-off.

The Hornets suffered their second loss of the season at Mansfield in a 5-4 decision on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.

Senior Dylan Prough started on the mound for Wellsboro and pitched five complete innings with a no decision. Senior Brandon Owlett finished the final two and takes the loss.

Wellsboro out hit the Tigers 8 to 7, led by Sophomore Dawson Prough's 3-for-3 night with two doubles at the plate and one run scored. Dylan Prough had two hits and Owlett, Junior Brett Kendrick, and Senior Cody DeHaas each singled.

The Hornets downfall were four errors and eight free passes issued to the Tigers.

"It's difficult to beat any team when you give away the number of outs we did tonight," said head coach Philip Prough. "What's missed in the loss is that the top of our lineup is hitting well. This was our poorest showing defensively.

"When you give eight free base runners, your margin for error in the field is slim and the need to execute defensively (and offensively) is elevated. Hopefully, it will be a learning experience for them," Prough concluded.

With the loss the Hornets fall to 3-2 (1-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Saturday, April 19 as they host Canton.
