Wellsboro baseball falls to Milton, 14-1.
 

The Wellsboro Varsity baseball team finished off the 2014 regular season with a 14-1 loss to Milton on Saturday, May 17.

Milton took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and pushed it to 2-0 in the third before exploding for 11 runs in the 4th. Wellsboro scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth as Sophomore Nick Tremper scored Senior Brian Doty. Milton then scored the game's final run in the top of the fifth inning to end the game.

The Hornets struggled at the plate as they went a combined 4-for-18 with seven strikeouts.

Senior Cody DeHaas went 2-for-2, Doty was 1-for-2 with a double, and and Sophomore Larry Walters was 1-for-2.

Five Hornets pitched during the game. Senior Brandon Owlett started and went three innings, giving up two runs, one earned, and struck out three to earn the loss. Sophomores James Mundy, Sam Moss, and Joe Allen each pitched a third of an inning, and Doty pitched one inning.

With the loss the Hornets end the regular season at 9-9 (5-5 NTL Division 1). The team will now prepare for District IV Class AA playoffs as they take on fifth-seeded Loyalsock on Tuesday, May 20 at Loyalsock at 4:30 p.m.
