Hornet baseball tops Troy, 8-3.

The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team racked up their fifth straight win as they beat Troy 8-3 on Wednesday, April 29.

The Hornets scored four runs in the first two innings to take a 4-1 lead as Juniors Nick Tremper and Dawson Prough and Senior Nick Levindoski each crossed home plate. Wellsboro then went up 5-1 after four as Freshman Johnny Rowland scored, but Troy scored two in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Wellsboro would put the game away in the sixth with runs by Rowland and Freshmen Dalton Prough and Parker Mann.

Levindoski was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, Dawson Prough was 1-for-3 with a triple an RBI, and Tremper was 1-for-2. Junior Joe Allen pitched a complete game as he gave up three runs (all earned) and struck out four batters.

"Today was a big win, a good win, and will help us compete for the Division 1 title," said head coach Philip Prough. "We put pressure on Troy when we're on the bases and they made a lot of errors and part of that was forcing the action. We were very disciplined at the plate, although they had hard throwers we came up with a good approach."

With the win, the Hornets improve to 8-4 (4-2 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action later today as they travel to Northeast Bradford.
