Hornet baseball tops Towanda 11-1 in 5 innings.
 

The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team picked up their second straight win over Towanda on Wednesday, April 27.

The Hornets beat Towanda 11-1, their second straight day scoing 11 runs against the Black Knights, to pick up their third consecutive win of the year.

Towanda scored their only run of the evening of the first inning and held the Hornets scoreless until the top of the third inning. Wellsboro scored twice, once from sophomore Dalton Prough and once from sophomore Johnny Rowland, to put the Hornets on top for good, 2-1. Wellsboro then broke the game open in the third as Dalton Prough, Rowland, and seniors Dawson Prough, Nick Tremper, James Mundy, and Joe Allen all crossed home plate to make it 8-1.

Wellsboro would add 3 more runs in the top of the fifth from Dawson Prough, Tremper, Rowland all scored.

"We started slow tonight but unlike other games this year, we bounced back quicker tonight," said head coach Philip Prough. "It's a good sign for us as we're realizing that it takes a complete game to get to the next level. Joe had good command tonight. He kept us in the game until the bats came alive.

"Johnny was solid too," Prough continued. "We've been hitting the ball hard lately. That continued tonight and eventually we found the holes."

Freshman Cam Tennis was 2-for-2 at the plate, Rowland was 1-for-1 with 3 runs scored, Allen finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI's, Dawson Prough went 1-for-4 (double) with 3 RBI's, and senior Larry Walters was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI's. Dalton Prough, Tremper, and Mundy each had a hit, with Mundy's being a double.

Allen started and pitched the first 3 innings, allowing 1 run and 1 hit to pick his second win of the year. Rowland came on in relief for the last 2 innings, and gave up 1 hit while striking out 3.

The win improves Wellsboro's record to 6-4 overall. The team will be back in action on Friday, April 29 at home agaist Coudersport.
