The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team picked up their second win in as many days with an 11-6 victory over Towanda on Tuesday, April 26.

The Hornets jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as sophomore Dalton Prough and seniors Dawson Prough, Nick Tremper, and Joe Allen all scored. Towanda got on the score board with 3 runs in the third inning to make it 4-3, but the Hornets answered with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning from Tremper, Allen, and fellow senior Larry Walters scored to make it 7-3.

Wellsboro added 2 more runs in the fourth inning as Dalton Prough and sophomore Nic Ingerick scored to make it 9-3. Both teams added runs in the fifth and sixth innnings and Towanda added their final run in the top of the seventh.

Allen was 2-for-3, freshman Cam Tennis was 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI's, and Dalton Prough was 2-for-5. Tremper finished the night 1-for-3, Ingerick was 1-for-2, and sophomore Johnny Rowland was 1-for-4.

Senior James Mundy started on the mound for the Hornets, with Ingerick and Dalton Prough coming on in relief. Ingerick pitched 3 innings and allowed 1 hit to collect his first career Varsity win.

"We didn't have our best game and our pitching early in the game was erratic," said head coach Philip Prough. "Nic Ingerick came in and did a nice job throwing strikes. That helped calm us down and we took over the game from there. Nic did a good job tonight. Offensively, we still hit the ball hard, but many of them were foul. Then we got caught lunging. Overall, on a cold night, I'm pleased with how we maintained our aggressiveness."

The win improves the Hornets' record to 5-4, and the team will turn around and travel to Towanda this afternoon.
