A 4-run 1st inning set the tone for Jersey Shore as they shut out Wellsboro 10-0 on Senior Night on Thursday, May 11.
"We didn’t get the outcome we hoped for tonight but that doesn’t minimize how important the seniors are to this team but more importantly how much they mean to me," said head coach Steve Adams. "We've played ball together since they were 4 years old. We've went to different states and tournaments and always performed. I got to know them as players but more importantly as people. I watched them grow from kids to young men. I’ve spent my last 14 years watching them grow up and I wouldn’t trade a second. I wish them all the best and I hope they know how much joy they have provided me by letting me be a part of their growing."
The Bulldogs scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st, added one in the 3rd, three in the 4th, and 2 in the 6th.
Sophomore Gabe Sprouse led Wellsboro at the plate going 2-for-3. Junior Caden Smith was 1-for-4, sophomore Ryder Bowen was 1-for-2, and sophomore Alec Magli was 1-for-3.
Freshman Marek Mascho and sophomore Ryder Bowen split time on the mound. Mascho threw 5 innings, allowing 10 runs on 13 hits with one walk and a strikeout. Bowen allowed one hit and struck out 3.
The loss drops the Hornets to 9-8 (8-5 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action this afternoon against Towanda.
