Lyons leads Sayre past Athens.

2012 Sayre vs. Athens BaseballAlex Lyons went the distance to lead the Redskins past their rival Athens 12-4 in NTL East baseball action Friday.

Lyons struck out five while allowing four hits, five walks and two earned runs. The Redskins used a four run third inning to break a 2-2 tie and added six in the fifth to seal the win.

At the plate Jared Donovan went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored to lead Sayre while Nate Williams and Tyler Williams had two hits each with both crossing home once.

Nick Skerpon added a triple with two runs while Cody Ketter, Lyons, Joe Kozemko and Brad Felt also had hits. Lyons' was a double.

Craig Moore went 2-for-3 for Athens while Chris Pack and Justin Schlosser had hits for the Wildcats.

On the mound Curt Moore took the loss while Moore, Troy Stivason and Adam McCauley combined to allow 11 hits, seven walks and 11 earned runs.

Notre Dame 9, Tioga 8

Aaron Carson's bottom seventh 2-run single pushed the Crusaders past the Tigers in IAC baseball action Friday.

After two scoreless innings Tioga tacked on four runs in the top of the third but Notre Dame answered with three in the bottom half of the inning. Tioga added three more in the top of the fourth while Notre Dame scored one in the bottom half of the inning. After a scoreless fifth Tioga notched another run in the sixth to go up 8-4. The Crusaders cut the deficit to one with a three runs in the bottom of the sixth to set up the seventh.

With one out Notre Dame's Sean Brown and Kyle Metzger walked, followed by a bloop single by Hunter Thomas to load the bases. Carson then hit a line drive up the middle to bring in Brown and Metzger for the win.

Thomas was 2-for-2 to lead the Crusaders with an RBI while Brown, Metzger, Carson, Tyler Boyles, Jaron Bush and Riley Leonard also had hits. Carson had 2-RBI with Meetzger and Thomas also knocking in runs. Brown scored three times in the game.

Bush went the distance for the win, striking out eight while allowing five walks, eight hits and five earned runs.

Nick Zwierlein led Tioga at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 3-RBI while Cody Bennett, Ryan Vergason, Zach Williams, Jake Howland, Carter Jackson and Travis Moyer also had hits.

Vergason added 2-RBI while Williams and Howland had one each. Bennett crossed home three times in the game.

Peter Simmons started and went four innings, striking out two while allowing seven walks, four hits and two earned runs. Jackson went the final 2 1/3-innings, walking seven and striking out two.

Tioga (2-2) hosts Newark Valley Monday.

Towanda 11, Northeast Bradford 1, 5 innings

LERAYSVILLE - The Black Knights scored in every inning as they remained undefeated in NTL East baseball action Friday.

Dylan Bates led Towanda at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI while Casey Huff, Cole Sexton, Brandon Dinelli, Austin Markel, Noah Huff, Nick Place, Grady Robinson and Tristan James all had hits. Dinelli's hit was a double.

Casey Huff and Place had 2-RBI each while Sexton, Dinelli, Mason Roof, Hoah Huff and Robinson also drove in runs.

Markel earned the win, going two innings to strike out one. Sawyer Strope, Dinelli and Zack Ripic each pitched an inning thereafter, combining for seven strike-outs, one hit and two walks.

Aaron Pifer had the lone Northeast Bradford hit and also drove in Ben Abell for the run while Jesse Stroud took the loss. He struck out five while allowing two walks and 10 hits.

Northeast Bradford travels to Wyalusing Wednesday.

Troy 10, Cowanesque Valley 1

The Trojans celebrated new uniforms by picking up an NTL West win Friday.

Cody Wolfe earned the win, going three perfect innings with six strike-outs. Lucas Havens came on in relief and went three more innings with five strike-outs to go with one unearned run, three walks and a hit. Delbert Lewis went the final inning with two strike-outs and a hit.

At the plate Lewis hit a grand slam while Zach Root went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Josh Mattocks, Landis Zimmerman and Wolfe each had a double in the game while Chad Vermilya, Jarod Mattocks and Havens also had hits.

Vermilya added 2-RBI while Brandon Mattocks scored twice in the game.

Brandon Whitesell took the loss for CV, going more than five innings to strike out two while allowing 10 hits and six earned runs. Luke Plummer went the final two innings allowing one walk, two hits and one earned run.

Plummer scored the run while Whitesell had a hit and an RBI.

The Trojans welcome Mansfield Monday.

Mansfield 13, Williamson 7

A six run fifth inning by the Tigers proved to be the difference as they picked up an NTL West baseball win Friday. The two teams were tied heading into the bottom half of the inning.

Sam Rotella led Mansfield, going 2-for-4 with 5-RBI while Taylor Hillson, Derek Burd, Matt DeLosa, Sam Bohnert and Ben Wilson had hits. Logan Wise scored three runs in the game as well.

Williamson's Drew Fish went 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors, including a home run and 3-RBI while Jordan Confer was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Corey Gee had a home run while Kyle Colegrove and Trevor Adriance also had hits.

The Tigers travel to Troy on Monday.

Sullivan County 14, Benton 1, 4 innings

The Griffins broke out the bats as they defeated Benton in Heartland Conference baseball action Friday.

Lucas Hatton, Barry Heinrich and Jake Gavitt all went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and 2-RBI. Heinrich also had a double.

Forrest Jordan, Zach Meyer, Kelby Mullen, Tim Kramer and Colton Fry also had hits. Meyer's and Mullen's were doubles.

Mullen added 2-RBI while Jordan, Meyer, Kramer, Sean Flannery and Fry also hit in runs.

Mullen got the win, going 3-innings to strike out three while allowing one walk and three hits. Jordan went the final inning, striking out one while allowing one hit, one walk and one unearned run.

Sullivan will host CMVT today with an 11 a.m. start.

Waverly 10, Candor 3

Back to back three run innings in the third and fourth secured this IAC baseball win for the Wolverines Friday.

"Dylan Perry had an excellent day at the plate," Waverly coach Kyle McDuffee said. "Our defense played excellent ball. Zach Saxon pitched a good solid three innings to get his first varsity win."

Perry went 4-for-4 on the day with 3-RBI and a triple while Pat Bronson was 2-for-4, both hits were doubles.

Cody Marchase, Tim Sutton and Matt Lee also had hits with Marchase knocking in two runs. Sutton, Lee, Bronson and Matt McCabe also had RBI.

Kyle Kuzma started, going two innings to allow just a walk and struck out three. Saxon came on in relief, going three innings to strike out two while allowing two hits, three walks and two runs.

Anthony Argenio went 1 2/3-innings to allow five walks, one hit and an earned run while Marchase pitched the final out.

Preston Wakeman had two hits to lead Candor while Harry Hartman was tagged with the loss.

Waverly JV won over Candor 33-4.

Wellsboro 28, Galeton 0, 3 innings

The Hornets remained undefeated with a big NTL West win Friday.

Ben Shaw was 3-for-4 with a 2-run home run while Pat Herres went 3-for-3 with a solo home run to lead the Hornets. Brandon Owlett also went 3-for-4 while Luke Rudy had a solo home run.

Thomas Johnston got the win, going one inning while Herres and Owlett went pitched one inning each.

Zack Brown took the loss for Galeton.

Wellsboro is at Williamson Monday.

Canton 7, Wyalusing 7, suspended

The Warriors and Rams were stopped after eight innings due to darkness. They will resume the game at a later date.
