Tioga baseball opens season with win.

2012 Tioga vs. Spencer Van-Etten BaseballVAN-ETTEN, N.Y. - The Tioga Tigers opened their season with an 11-6 victory over Spencer Van-Etten on Monday afternoon.

Cody Bennett keyed the Tioga attack, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, four runs, a double and a three-run home run.

Dakota Skinner was 4-for-4 with two runs and Ryan Vergason had two hits and a run scored with two RBI.

Peter Simmons had two hits with a run scored and Zack Baker, Zach Williams and Eric Zwierlein all had hits, with Williams, Baker and Travis Moyer scoring runs.

Simmons pitched four innings, striking out four, walking two and allowing six hits and four earned runs. Zwierlein worked three innings, striking out two, walking three and allowing three hits and two runs, one earned.

Tioga hosts Candor on Wednesday.

South Williamsport 10, Sullivan County 0, 6 innings

LAPORTE - South's Alex Carpenter held the Griffins to just one hit to pick up the win in Heartland Conference baseball action Monday.

The Mountaineers scored three runs in the first and second innings, then added two more in the fourth. They continued to chip away, scoring one run in the fifth and sixth to seal the win.

Zach Meyer had the lone Sullivan hit.

On the mound, Kelby Mullen took the loss, going five innings to strike out one while allowing five walks, 11 hits and nine runs, only six of which were earned. Meyer finished out, allowing one hit and one earned run.

Caleb Catherine led South, going 4-for-5 with three runs.

Sullivan County (1-2) will welcome St. John Neumann on Wednesday.

Edison 6, Waverly 1

WAVERLY, N.Y. - The Wolverines were no-hit in the loss on Monday night.

Kyle Michard tossed the no-hitter for Edison, striking out 15 and walking two.

Cody Marchese scored Waverly's run after a walk.

Dylan Perry went five innings for Waverly, striking out six and allowing five hits and five earned runs, with two walks.

Kyle Kuzma worked two innings, striking out one and allowing two hits and two walks and one earned run.

Mansfield 4, Coudersport 2

The Tigers opened the season with a victory oon MOnday.

Derrick Burd, Sam Rotella, Skye Stiner, Logan Weiss, Taylor Hillson, Sam Bohnert and Matt Delosa all had hits for Mansfield in the win.

Burd, Rotella, Steiner and Hillson scored runs and Hillson, Jason DeHaven, Weiss and DeLosa had RBI in the game.

Rotella worked six innings, striking out three and walking one and Bohnert pitched one inning, walking and striking out none.

Mansfield is at Wellsboro on Monday.

Notre Dame 9, Newfield 4

In his first varsity start Notre Dame's Jeron Bush went the distance to pick up the win over the Trojans in IAC baseball action Monday.

The Crusaders jumped out early, scoring eight runs in the first three innings. Newfield would score a couple in the final inning but couldn't get any further than that.

Bush went seven innings to strike out nine while allowing five hits, two walks and four runs, three of which were earned.

Hunter Thomas and Wyatt Martin had two hits for the Crusaders, including one double a piece. Martin added two RBI while Thomas had one.

The Crusaders will host defending division champions Waverly on Wednesday.
