Canton pounded out 12 hits as they beat Cowanesque Valley 10-0 in six innings to secure the outright NTL West baseball title Saturday.

"These boys deserve it," Canton coach Bob Rockwell said.

The Warriors have been close in recent years, including last year where they had the inside track most of the season until they were swept in a double-header by eventual champs Wyalusing.

"All season we've got good pitching and we've hit the ball hard most of the year," Rockwell remarked.

And today they showed what they could do it with the glove with an error free outing.

"We played a lot better defensively today," he said.

Emmett Watson and Wes Moore had three hits each with Watson scoring once and Moore scoring twice with an RBI. Trevor Route went 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and 4-RBI.

Josiah Bardo and Garrett Wesneski both doubled in the game while Connor Route had a hit as well. Wesneski scored twice while Bardo, Kyle Landis, Chase Pepper and John Bowman also crossed home.

Route and Wesneski had 2-RBI each, too.

Bowman earns the win, going five innings to strike out seven with three walks. Jacob Barrett pitched the final inning with two strikeouts.

Tyler Melko had the lone CV hit. He also gets the loss on the mound with three strikeouts and seven runs in five innings of work. Brandon Whitesell pitched the final inning.

This win also clinches the top seed in the Class A, District IV playoffs for Canton.

Canton will host Wellsboro Monday and Towanda Wednesday.
