2013 Wyalusing vs. Troy BaseballThe Towanda Black Knights got three runs in the sixth inning to break up a scoreless game, but South Williamsport answered back with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning for a 4-3 win.

South pitcher Billy Rummings had a no-hitter going into the sixth inning, but that's when the Black Knights got to him for three runs.

Jared Lines led off with a line-drive single up the middle and after Rummings got a strikeout, Nick Place singled to put runners on first and third.

Austin Markel reached on an error that scored Lines and after another strikeout Tristan James hit a two-out single that scored Cole Sexton, who was running for Place, from second base. Markel moved to third on the play and scored on a passed ball.

After South took the lead in the bottom of the sixth Towanda had a chance in the seventh. Mitch Patel doubled and moved to third on a ground ball with one out, but he was stranded there.

For five innings James matched Rummings in putting zeroes on the mound, as he went five innings, striking out three, walking two, hitting one and allowing four hits and three runs, all earned, all of the runs coming before he left in the sixth.

Dylan Bates pitched one inning, striking out one, allowing one hit and one earned run to take the loss and fall to 1-1 on the year.

"I thought James threw effectively for us for five innings," Towanda coach Bill Sexton said. "He got in a little trouble and worked his way out of it in the second inning. He had runners on first and second with nobody out and got a strikeout, a groundout and a groundout. I thought it caught up with him a little in the sixth inning.

"Aside from that inning, I thought we pitched pretty well. I thought we played pretty good defense. We were facing a good pitcher tonight and we got to him for three runs in the sixth, we just couldn't hold onto it. Hopefully it's a pretty good springboard into districts for us."

Lines, James, Place and Patel had Towanda's four hits, Patel's being a double, and James and Markel had RBI, while Sexton, Markel and Lines scored.

Rummings struck out nine, walked three and allowed four hits and three unearned runs for South in the game.

Chad Johnson scored two runs for the Rams and Shane Salsman scored a run.

Wyalusing jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead after one inning, but Troy's pitching slowed down the Rams offense the rest of the way, as the Rams got a run in the fourth and one in the sixth for their other runs.

Kyle Jackson started for Troy and took the loss, allowing five runs in the first, before Nathan Swain came in and shut the rams down. Swain pitched five innings, striking out six. Bradin Heimbach and Darton Harwick also pitched for Troy.
