SOUTHPORT, N.Y. - A big hit early by Ridgebury's Parker May gave Notre Dame the lead on Tuesday in their IAC divisional playoff game against Edison.
However, after taking a 3-1 lead in the first inning, it was all Edison the rest of the way as they won 16-6.
Notre Dame chased Edison starter Joe Ducot before he got an out in the first inning as May hit a two-run triple to score Sam Bruner and Hunter Thomas. May came around to score on a sacrifice by Cameron Reid.
Edison exploded for six runs in the second to take a 7-3 lead and they added nine runs in the fifth inning to put the game away.
Notre Dame fought back and got three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but by then the deficit was too big.
May had a big day at the plate for the Crusaders, going 3-for-3 with two RBI, the triple and a run scored.
Joe Prunier and Brian Hale also had hits for Notre Dame in the game.
Bruner and Thomas scored two runs each and Reid scored a run and drove in a run. Prunier had two RBI for Notre Dame.
Andy Wilkins was 3-for-5 to lead Edison with three RBI and two runs scored.
Thomas pitched 4 1/3 innings for Notre Dame, striking out none, walking one and allowing 11 hits and 11 runs, five earned.
May struck out four, walked two and allowed three hits and five runs, none earned, in 2 1/3 innings for Notre Dame.
After Ducott gave up three runs on three walks and a hit before an out was recorded, Josh Cosgrove came in and pitched five innings of relief to get the win. He struck out eight and allowed three hits, three walks and three runs.
Wilkins allowed one hit and one walk in two scoreless innings.
The Wildcats clinched no worse than a tie atop the NTL Division I standings with the win on Tuesday.
Athens hosts Mansfield today at 4:30 p.m. A win and the Wildcats win the division title. A loss and Athens, Mansfield and Towanda would be tied atop the standings.
On Tuesday Nick Vosburg was 3-for-4 with three RBI, a double and two runs and Dan Fisher scored two runs.
Sam Perri had a hit, run and RBI and Troy Stivason had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
Zane Vargason had a hit and a run, Tyler Secules had a hit and an RBI and Stag Shadduck had an RBI.
Luke Newman had a triple, run and two RBI and Jake Shaffer had a hit and an RBI.
John Kleiner was 3-for-4 with two runs and Justin Reagan and Matt Collins scored runs.
Holdan Hitchcock, Isaac Bennett, Kyle Tinna, Dylan Otis, Jordan Salsman, Collin Edsell and Ridge Williams had hits for Wyalusing.
Bennett, Tinna and Williams scored runs and Otis and Bennett had RBI for the Rams.
Ben Rubert pitched five innings to get the win, allowing five hits and four walks and two runs, with no strikeouts. Collins struck out none, walked one and allowed two hits and one run in one inning.
Bennett struck out one, walked one and allowed eight hits and seven runs, three earned, in three innings for the Rams. Otis allowed one hit and two runs, with three walks, in an inning and Devin Carr struck out one, allowed four hits and four runs, with four walks, in two innings.
