ATHENS - Kyle Schucker was the right player in the right spot for the Trojans on Monday.
He allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out four to get the shutout and also knocked in Troy's only run for the 1-0 victory over Athens in NTL Large School baseball action.
It was a classic pitcher's duel as Schucker and Wildcat Tyler Forbes struck out more (13) than allowed base runners (six).
Forbes was dominant in the loss, allowing just three hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in the loss.
This is Athens' first loss of the season.
It looked like extra innings but in the top of the seventh with two outs Isaac Havens reached first on an infield single, followed by Schucker hitting a line-drive into the right-center gap to drive Havens in.
That was all Schucker needed as the Trojans put down the Athens side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory for Schucker.
Colin Binford had the other Troy hit.
For the Wildcats Ben Rubert had the hit while Matt Collins and Zane Vargason reached on walks.
Athens hosts Wyalusing Wednesday while Troy travels to CV.
The Warriors picked up an NTL Small School baseball win Monday thanks in part to a dominant pitching performance from John Bowman.
Bowman struck out 15 while allowing no walks and three hits as he went the distance for the victory.
Bowman was also 2-for-3 with a double from the plate while Travis Butcher (2-for-4), Mason Moore (2-for-3) and Bryce Cole (2-for-3) also had multiple hits in the game. Cole had 2-RBI with Butcher knocking in one run.
