Athens edges Wellsboro.

ATHENS — Athens turned away Wellsboro's upset bid in a 3-1 win in NTL baseball action Wednesday.

The Wildcats got on the scoreboard first with a run in the bottom of the second. Wellsboro tied it up in the third but two runs in the fourth put Athens up for good.

Matt Collins, Cody Jennings, Marc Felt, Cory Stivason, Daniel Joyce and Justin Reagan each had hits for Athens. Joyce knocked in two runs while Felt, Stivason and Joe Horn scored their runs.

Collins started and earned the win, going five innings to strike out six while allowing three hits, three walks and no earned runs.

Jennings finished the final two innings, allowing just a hit.

Carson Davis went 2-for-4 to lead Wellsboro while Dalton Prough and Caleb Tennis also had hits. Silas Wagaman scored their run while Billy Lechler got the RBI.

Taynton Repard started and earns the loss, going 5 1/3-innings to strike out two while allowing six hits, two walks and three runs, one of them earned.

Prough finished out, striking out one.

Waverly 3, SVE 2

Brendyn Stillman's RBI single kept Waverly undefeated in the IAC Wednesday.

Tied at two in the bottom of the seventh a 1-out hit by Stillman scored Grand Caplan in a walk-off win.

Runs in the first and third gave Waverly a 2-0 lead but SVE scored twice in the sixth to knot things up.

Stillman went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Wolverines while Dylan Cooney, Zach VanHouten, Hunter Bodine, Cole Jenner and Paul Girolamo also had hits.

Cooney, Stillman and Caplan scored the runs while Stillman and VanHouten each had an RBI.

Devin Garrison started and went the first 6 1/3-innings for the no decision. He struck out eight while allowing nine hits, two walks and two earned runs on 100 pitches.

Eithan McEnulty went the final two-thirds for the win. He struck out two while allowing one walk on 17 pitches.

Troy 13, Wyalusing 5

An 8-run sixth inning by the Trojans busted open a close NTL baseball contest Wednesday.

Troy led 3-1 after the first inning but the Rams cut it to 3-2 after the third. The Trojans extended it to 4-2 in the fourth but a 3-run fifth by Wyalusing put them up 5-4.

Troy tied it up with a run in the bottom half of the inning then exploded for the big inning in the sixth.

Tyler Williams led Troy at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI while Clark Jackson was 2-for-4 with two runs and Anthony Deitrick was 2-for-3 with a double, 4-RBI and a run scored.

Nate Martin added a double with an RBI with Bailey Cohick and Brandon Zechman also getting hits.

Matt LaBadie crossed home three times, Cohick twice, while Zechman and Michael Borden also scored. Zechman knocked in three runs in the contest while Cohick had 2-RBI.

Mason Bellows started and went two innings, striking out two while allowing one walk, six hits and two earned runs. LaBadie finished out for the win, going five innings to strike out four while allowing five hits, one walk and three earned runs.

Shane Fuhrey was 3-for-5 with a run scored to lead Wyalusing while Riley God (2-for-4) and Kyle Warner (2-for-4) also had multiple hit games. Warner had a double while both players scored a run.

Chandler Brown and Cody Jackson each had a double while Brandon Brown also got a hit. Jackson and Brandon Brown both scored while Chandler Brown, Jackson, Zach Bryun and Brandon Brown all knocked in a run.

Holdan Hitchcock started and went four innings, striking out three while allowing four walks, five hits and five earned runs. Mikey Wilcox finished out the final two innings, striking out one while allowing four hits, three walks and eight runs, six of them earned.

North Penn-Mansfield 7, Towanda 5

Dylan Williamson had two hits, including a double, and three RBI to lead NPM to their 7-5 victory over Towanda on Wednesday.

For NPM, Joel Whitteker had two runs, one hit and one RBI, Kipp Hilson finished with two runs and one hit, Carl Dinger finished with one run, one hit and one RBI, Justice Giarth had one hit, Logan Adams scored a run, Brian Smith had two hits and one RBI and Derrick Herbst added one run and two hits, including a triple.

Adams started for NPM and pitched six innings, allowing five runs, four earned on eight hits and striking out three for the win. Hillson earned the save after pitching a scoreless inning to end the game, striking out one.

For Towanda, Keegan Kisner finished with one run, three hits and one RBI, Tyler Bidlack had one run, hit and RBI, Ryan Bartholomew added one run, three hits and an RBI, Rickey Smiley finished with one run and one hit, Luke Tama had one RBI, Troy Pierce added one hit and Preston Rogers added one run, one hit and one RBI.

Pierce started for Towanda and pitched six innings, allowing seven runs, two earned, eight hits and striking out five.

Towanda hosts Athens Friday.

Notre Dame 20, Newark Valley 9

Ben Cook led Notre Dame to their 20-9 victory over Newark Valley on Wednesday with four hits.

Also for ND, Iman McKay had one hit, Isaiah McKay had two and Gary Raupers, Nate Snavely and Erik Charnetski each had three hits.

Snavely started and threw five innings, allowing four walks.

Sayre 20, Williamson 3, 5 innings

Connor Hanafin finished with three runs, three hits, including a double and a triple, and three RBI to lead Sayre to their 20-3 win over Williamson on Wednesday.

For Sayre, Sam Wheeler had one run and three hits, including a double, Jordan Rockwell finished with two runs and two hits, Nate Sweet added two runs, three hits, including two doubles, and two RBI, Isaiah Firestine scored three runs, Quinn Hanafin also scored three runs and had an RBI, Matt Williams had two runs, three hits and four RBI, John Esposito added one run, two hits and three RBI, Jake Goodrich finished with one hit, Camden Wheeler had one run, one hit and two RBI, Chris Ray scored two runs and Phil Hall had one hit.

Rockwell started for Sayre, throwing three scoreless innings and striking out three. Ryan Murelle relieved him for two innings, allowing three runs, three hits and striking out four.

For Williamson, Hunter Sackett had one hit, Brock Sackett and Chase Austin each scored a run, Jared Stermer had one run and one hit, Dan Medina finished with one hit and one RBI and Dawson Hackett finished with one RBI.

Colin Heilbrun started the game for Williamson, throwing one and one third innings, allowing nine runs, five earned, on six hits. Ethan Shaefer relieved him for three and two thirds innings and allowed 11 runs, four earned, on 13 hits and striking out two.

Hancock 6, Tioga 2

Tioga fell to Hancock 6-2 in local New York baseball action on Wednesday.

For Tioga, Pierce Hendershot scored one run, Damon Rockwell scored one run and had one hit, Mitchell Taylor, Justin Rockwell and Derrick Barto each had one hit and Tyler Whitmore had two hits.

Pierce Hendershot pitched for Tioga, striking out three and allowing six runs on eight hits.
