WAVERLY, N.Y. - Waverly celebrated military veterans then defeated Trumansburg 4-1 in IAC baseball action Saturday.
Before the game the Wolverines honored Wounded Warriors as they both teams had camouflage uniforms and the bases were red, white and blue among other touch-ups.
Waverly broke a 0-0 game with two runs in the fourth and fifth. Hunter Bodine kickstarted the Waverly offense with a double in the fourth while back to back hits from Brendyn Stillman and Zach VanHouten got them going in the fifth.
Bodine and Stillman both went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. Bodine added an RBI.
Dylan Cooney and Van Houten also had hits with VanHouten and Brady Roney scoring. VanHouten also had an RBI.
Eithan McEnulty started and nearly went the distance, going 6 1/3-innings. He struck out one while allowing four walks, five hits and one unearned run on 104 pitches. Stillman finished out.
Jake Shelley went 2-for-3 to lead Trumansburg.
A 3-run sixth inning gave the Wildcats a non-league baseball win Saturday.
They led 3-2 before that scoring out burst.
Athens had 15 hits in the game as Ryan Kennedy, Matt Collins, Cody Jennings, Luke Newman, Marc Felt, Cory Stivason and Justin Reagan had two hits each. Daniel Joyce had one.
Stivason knocked in two runs while Newman, Joyce and Reagan each had an RBI. Kennedy, Collins, Jennings, Felt, Stivason and Reagan scored the Wildcat runs.
Jennings started and went five innings for the win, striking out six while allowing four hits, one walk and two runs, one of them earned.
Collins finished the final two innings, striking out three while allowing two hits.
Michael Smithers went the distance for the shutout win for Canton in non-league baseball action Saturday.
He struck out three while allowing seven hits and two walks on 93 pitches.
Brendan Landis went 3-for-4 with two runs to lead the Warriors while Silas Binford was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
Nate Deeghan was 2-for-2 with an RBI while Kaden Martell and Seth Robbins each had a double. Martell had a run scored and an RBI while Robbins knocked in two runs.
Ethan Landis, Smithers and Taylor Acla also had hits.
Jeremiah McClinton, Garrett Storch, Smithers and Uriah Baillie all scored while Acla knocked in two runs and McClinton one.
The Hornets fell in non-league baseball action Saturday.
Coudersport led 1-0 after the first inning but Wellsboro scored a run in the fourth to tie up.
They added two more in the top of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead but runs in the bottom half of the inning plus the sixth by Coudersport knotted things up again.
A 1-out single with a runner on second gave Coudersport the walk off win in the eighth.
Caleb Tennis and Silas Wagaman had two hits each for Wellsboro while Dalton Prough, Billy Lechler, Carson Davis, Brent English and Johnny Rowland also had hits.
Scoring the runs were Prough, Caleb Tennis and Wagaman.
Rowland and Davis pitched with Davis getting the loss. Rowland went two innings, striking out two while allowing one walk, two hits and one earned run.
Davis threw the next six, striking out four while allowing four walks, four hits and three earned runs.
