With Byron Marnati on the mound, Canton shut out Troy 4-0 in non-league baseball action Monday.
The victory gave the Warriors a big jolt in their playoff push while Troy remains one win away from clinching their own district spot.
Marnati went the distance, striking out seven while allowing one walk and three hits on 102 pitches.
A three-run fifth inning did the trick for the Warriors.
With bases loaded, Cameron Bellows broke a 0-0 tie as an error off his bat scored Ben Knapp and Dylan Wilcox.
After an out was made, a Nate Deegan sacrifice fly brought in Taylor Acla for the 3-0 lead.
Canton would get a safety run in the sixth to secure the win.
Knapp and Acla both went 2-for-3 as Knapp scored twice and Acla crossed home once. Acla also had a double with an RBI.
Deegan had a hit with an RBI, Landis had a hit and Bellows knocked in two runs.
Clark Jackson, Brandon Zechman and William Dibble had the three Troy hits.
Tyler Williams was strong in the loss, going six innings to strike out four. He allowed two walks, six hits and four runs, one of them earned.
The Warriors are now 9-8 and just need one win to clinch a playoff spot. They've had an up and down season with two streaks of both three straight wins and three straight losses. This marks their second win in a row and a season sweep of their rivals up north.
They finish the season on the road with games at NEB, Williamson and Towanda.
The Trojans fall to 9-7.
After a 7-0 start to the season they've gone 2-7 but that includes a 10-run win against NTL Division-II leading Sayre, a team that just swept Canton.
Like Canton, Troy just needs one win to make districts with four games left. They travel to Wyalusing then host NP-Mansfield and Sullivan County before finishing the season at Towanda.
With Towanda also on the playoff bubble, that game could be a must-win for both teams.
Cowanesque Valley 5, Williamson 4, 9 innings
Christian Kemp hit in Owen Fitzwater and the Indians pulled out a narrow NTL Division-II win Monday.
CV took a 3-1 lead after the first inning and even made it 4-1 after the top of the first. Williamson began the rally in the bottom half of the inning with a run. They scored one in the fifth and then tied it up in the seventh to send it to extras.
Kemp finished the game 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI while Matt Barber had a double with a run scored.
Caleb Morgan had a hit with an RBI while Caleb Nunn had a hit with a run scored. Dustin VanZile had a hit as well while Seth Huyler scored a run.
Kemp started and got a no decision. He went six innings with one strikeout, no walks, five hits and three runs.
Huyler finished out and earned the win. He went three innings with three strikeouts, three walks, two hits and one run.
Brock Sackett was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for Williamson.
Dawson Hackett, Tristen Herman, Dakota Corwin, Ethan Shaefer and Jesse Stewart also had hits.
Stewart and Hackett also scored runs.
Wellsboro 11, NEB 1, 5 innings
The Hornets picked up another NTL baseball win Monday.
Dalton Prough went 2-for-2 with a double, triple, three runs and an RBI to lead the Hornets while Johnny Rowland was 2-for-2 with a run scored and 3-RBI.
Caleb Tennis and Billy Lechler both went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Cam Tennis was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI while Kaeden Mann, Taynton Repard and Parker Mann each had a hit.
Repard scored twice with Kaeden Mann and Parker Mann both scoring once.
Carson Davis got the win, striking out five while allowing five hits, no walks and one earned run.
Tyler Devonshire went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Panthers while Ian Wilbur had a hit and crossed home. Collin Allis and Grant Allis also had hits.
Notre Dame 16, Newark Valley 6
The Crusaders found themselves down 4-1 after the top of the third but scored 13 of their 16 runs in the next three innings to pull away for the IAC win.
Matt Smith was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple, three runs and 2-RBI while Gary Raupers was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and 4-RBI.
Hunter Homerda was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and 3-RBI with Isiah McKay going 2-for-3 with three runs.
Dustin Patton had a double with an RBI as well.
Ryess Youman and Owen Stewart each scored a run and knocked one in as well while Erik Charnetski scored two runs.
Steven Gough started and scored the win for Notre Dame, striking out 12 while allowing two hits, two walks and four unearned runs.
McKay went an inning, striking out two with one hit, one walk and two unearned runs. Raupers pitched the seventh, striking out two with one hit and one walk.
Tioga 7, Greene 1
Pierce Hendershot went 2-for-4 to lead the Tigers to a non-league baseball win Monday.
Hendershot had a double, triple and 2-RBI while Connor Hutchinson was 2-for-4 with a run scored, double, and triple.
Mitchell Taylor, Justin Rockwell, Thomas Cook, Derrick Gabe and Brady Worthing also had hits.
Gabe scored twice while Mason Booser, Taylor, Rockwell and Worthing also crossed home. Cook added an RBI.
Taylor started and went six innings for the win, striking out 12 while allowing six hits, one run and one walk.
Hendershot pitched the seventh with two strikeouts and one hit.
