ROME — An eight-run second inning helped Towanda hold off Northeast Bradford 15-10 in NTL cross-over baseball action Thursday.
NEB led 1-0 after the first inning but soon found themselves down 8-1. They got two of them back in the bottom half of the second inning.
The Knights added three more in the top of the third and fourth to take a commanding 14-3 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth the Panthers clawed back with six runs of their own to make it 14-9. Towanda got another run in the sixth while the Panthers scored one in the seventh.
After that run the Knights brought Luke Tama in to pitch with the bases loaded and no outs. He struck out the next two and got a fielder's choice to end the game.
"It was kind of a really key situation," Towanda coach Bill Sexton. "It's the fourth time he's come in meaningful situations for us in relief and three times he's come up big. All the momentum had swung to Northeast. He did a real good job."
And, despite the high scoring, Sexton liked some of the things he saw on Thursday. "I am not displeased with the way we hit the ball," he remarked. "We had some big days from people up and down the order. We had five kids with multiple hit days today and every one of the kids in the starting line-up had a hit today. Four doubles out of our 15 hits, too. You can't ask for more offensively. We just need more consistency out of our pitching and we had some guys who pitched well, too."
Tama was 3-for-5 with a double, 3-RBI and a run scored while Brayden Manchester was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Lars Thomason was 2-for-5 with 2-RBI and a run scored, Dawsan Manning was 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI and Brett Crispell was 2-for-3 with three runs and 2-RBI.
Ryan Bartholomew had a double with 2-RBI, Preston Rogers had a double with three runs and 2-RBI and Tanner Kunkle had a hit with two runs.
Devin Dunn knocked in a run while Ethan Sparrow scored twice.
Dunn started and went one-third of an inning with one strikeout for the no decision.
Thomason came on for 2 2/3-innings to get the win, striking out one while allowing one walk, two hits and three runs, two of them earned. He improved to 1-1 on the season.
Manning went two-thirds of an inning, striking out one while allowing two walks, three hits and six runs, three of them earned.
Bob Farley went 2 1/3-innings, striking out two with four hits, one walk and one earned run.
Ian Wilbur, Tyler Devonshire and Collin Allis had two hits each to lead NEB with Wilbur and Devonshire each getting a double. Wilbur knocked in three runs and scored one, Devonshire scored twice and had an RBI and Collin Allis had 2-RBI.
Nick Vrabel had a hit with a run scored and an RBI, Grant Allis had a hit with two runs and an RBI, Lucas Crown had a hit with a run batted in and Braeden Frisbie had a hit with two runs.
Clayton Connor and Max Cooper each scored runs as well.
Wilbur started and went 1 2/3-innings for the loss, allowing one walk, six hits and eight runs, five of them earned.
Crown pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one walk, four hits and three earned runs, Collin Allis went two-thirds of an inning, striking out one with one hit and three unearned runs, Devonshire went 2 2/3-innings with five walks, four hits and one earned run while striking out four and Grant Allis went 1 1/3-innings with a strikeout.
NEB is at Athens today with Elk Lake coming to the Panthers on Saturday.
Towanda has a double-header with Edison on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
Canton 7, North Penn-Mansfield 6
A five-run sixth inning helped the Warriors to rally back and earn the NTL cross-over baseball win Thursday.
North Penn-Mansfield led 2-0 after the first with Canton cutting it to 2-1 in the third.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth with the Tigers netting three in the fifth to take a four-run lead (6-2).
Nate Deegan went 2-for-4 with a double and 2-RBI for Canton while Cameron Bellows was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Ben Knapp and Kaden Martell each had doubles; Knapp scored twice and Marshall knocked in a run.
Carter Route, Michael Smithers, Dylan Wilcox and Garrett Storch also had hits.
Bellows, Brendon Landis, Smithers, Wilcox and Storch all scored while Marshall, Route, Wilcox and Storch each knocked in a run.
Canton went through three pitchers to get the win.
Byron Marnati started and went three innings for the no decision. He struck out two while allowing three hits, one walk and three runs, two of them earned.
Brendan Matthews went the next three innings to claim the win. He struck out two while allowing three walks, two hits and three earned runs.
Smithers came in to pitch the seventh and gets the save, allowing one walk and one hit.
Dylan Williamson went 2-for-4 with a home run, 2-RBI and a run scored for the Tigers while Dylan Wesneski was 2-for-3 with two runs and a double.
Kipp Hillson and Logan Garverick each had a hit as well.
Hillson, Dewey Wise and Alex Stein each scored a run.
Hillson started and takes the loss, striking out five while allowing nine hits, one walk and seven runs, six of them earned.
Noah Spencer came on in relief, striking out two while allowing one hit.
Cowanesque Valley 7, Wyalusing 0
CV used a five-run sixth inning to pull out the NTL baseball win Thursday.
They scored two in the first to take an early lead.
They only had three hits in the game as Kurtis Easton, Christian Kemp and Seth Huyler all got on with the bat.
However, they drew eight walks in the game.
Kemp scored twice while Easton, Huyler, Nevin Stiles and Dustin VanZile also crossed home.
Easton and Kemp each had an RBI.
Huyler got the win with a four-hit shutout.
He struck out two while allowing two walks in the seven innings of work.
Riley God was 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Rams while Shane Fuhrey and Nick Kelly also had hits.
Tioga 5, Odessa-Montour Watkins Glen 2
The Tigers eeked out an IAC baseball win Thursday.
Three runs in the second inning put them up for good and they added safety runs in the fourth and fifth.
Derrick Barto (2-for-3) and Justin Rockwell (2-for-3) had multi-hit games. Barto scored once and drove in two runs while Rockwell crossed home twice.
Pierce Hendershot had a double with a run scored while Mitchel Taylor, Connor Hutchinson and Derrick Gage also had hits.
Hendershot and Hutchinson both scored.
Hendershot went the distance for the win, striking out 15 while allowing four hits, no walks and two earned runs.
Athens 17, Williamson 1, 3 innings
Cory Stivason went 4-for-4 as the Wildcats picked up the NTL baseball win Thursday.
Stivason had two doubles, 4-RBI and three runs scored.
Nate Kennedy went 3-for-4 with a double, 3-RBI and a run scored and Ethan Witherow was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs.
Aaron Lane added a double while Kaden Rude, Nick Watkins, Jared Williams, Jeffery Reagan and Brady Smith also had hits.
Williams, Reagan and Smith each knocked in two runs with Kade Rude, Keegan Rude and Watkins also getting an RBI.
Kaden Rude, Chase Minnick, Keegan Rude, Watkins, Williams, Smith, Lane and Ed Solomon also scored.
Kennedy went three innings, striking out two while allowing two hits and one unearned run in the win.
Brock Sackett and Tristen Herman had the Williamson hits.
Carter Strange scored the run with Herman knocking him in.
Zack Carr started and took the loss, going 1 2/3-innings with three strikeouts, three walks, nine hits and nine earned runs.
Ethan Shaefer went one-third of an inning, striking out one while allowing two walks, two hits and six earned runs.
Brock Robinson went the final inning, striking out one while allowing four hits and two earned runs.
Waverly 31, SVE 2
The Wolverines' offense was on display as they had two nine-run innings and scored in every at bat to claim the IAC win.
Colby Sindoni (4-for-5) and Elijah Kraft (4-for-4) both had big games. Sindoni's included a double with six runs and 3-RBI while Kraft had 3-RBI and a run scored.
Cole Jenner went 3-for-3 with a triple, 4-RBI and a run scored, Jason Morales was 3-for-6 with two doubles, five runs and 4-RBI, Scott Woodring went 2-for-2 with two runs and 2-RBI, Ethan Stotler was 2-for-5 with a double, four runs and 2-RBI and Jaylen McCarty was 2-for-3 with three runs and 2-RBI.
Eithan McEnulty had a hit with two runs, Montana Davis had a hit with a run scored and 2-RBI, Bradey Roney and Mike Shaffer each had a hit with two runs and an RBI.
Nick Briggs scored a run and knocked one in while Tyler Croft had an RBI.
Sindoni went six innings for the win, striking out six while allowing five hits and two earned runs.
