There are great seasons by high school pitchers, and then there is what Patric Bronson did for the Waverly Wolverines this season.
During the regular season, heading into the IAC title game, Bronson had an ERA of 0.00. He had allowed exactly zero earned runs in 48 innings during the regular season.
Facing the state's top ranked Class C team in the IAC title game, a team that won the Section IV title, Bronson gave up one run in the seventh inning of a 1-0 loss.
Heading into the Section IV playoffs Bronson had a 7-1 mark on the year, striking out 93 in 55 innings and sporting a .13 ERA. He allowed just 13 hits on the season in those 55 innings.
Bronson wasn't only dominant on the mound, he was also had a strong year at the plate, where he hit .297 with six doubles, 17 RBI and 13 runs scored.
For his historical season Bronson is this year's The Daily & Sunday Review All-Region baseball player of the year.
In the NTL the Wyalusing Rams went on a run the second half of the season to claim the NTL East title and Logan Hitchcock earns the Silver Slugger award as the offensive player of the year. Hitchcock hit .485 with 12 RBI and eight doubles. However, it's the incredible .731 on-base percentage, with 32 walks, that stands out with Hitchcock. Hitchcock also had a strong season on the mound, going 4-0 with a 2.63 ERA.
Towanda's Mason Roof is the pitcher of the year. Roof was 5-3 on the year with a 2.07 ERA in 47 1/3 innings. He also hit .397 with 22 RBI and 18 runs scored for the Black Knights.
Canton's Garrett Wesneski is the newcomer of the year. Wesneski hit .515 with 24 RBI and on the mound he was 4-1 for the Warriors as they reached the District 4, Class A final.
Sayre's Nick Skerpon is the defensive player of the year. Along with his strong glove at shortstop, Skerpon also hit .550 with 13 doubles for the Redskins.
All five players are first-team selections and they are joined on the first team by Towanda's Zack Ripic (.508, 6 home runs, 26 RBI, 26 runs scored, 27 1/3 innings, 2.30 ERA on the mound) and Austin Markel (.327, 6 doubles).
Wesneski is joined on the first team by teammate Scott Rockwell (.435, 25 runs, 16 stolen bases and 1-0 with two saves on the mound), while Hitchcock is joined by his teammates Joe Champluvier (.407, 20 RBI) and Andrew Pickett (3-1, 2.60 ERA, 36 strikeouts).
Sayre's Jared Donovan and Alex Lyons join teammate Skerpon on the first team. Donovan hit .388 for Sayre, while Lyons hit .509.
Bronson is joined on the first team by teammate Dylan Perry, who hit .507, with 23 runs scored and 19 RBI.
Tioga's Cody Bennett (.443, 4 home runs, 18 RBI, 16 stolen bases) and Sullivan County's Zach Meyer are also on the first team. Meyer was the ace for the Griffins as they reached the District 4, Class A semifinals this year.
Troy's Cody Wolfe (6-4, 3.27 ERA, 55 2/3 innings, 48 strikeouts), Athens' Curt Moore (.397, 16 runs) and Wellsboro's Matt Reese (.379, 21 runs) and Mansfield's Taylor Hillson round out the first team.
The second team includes Northeast Bradford's James Zajac and Brett Goodwin, Athens' Troy Stivason, Wyalusing's Kyle Tinna and Cody Pickett and Towanda's Casey Huff and Grady Robinson.
Sullivan County's Kelby Mullen and Barry Heinrich are on the second team, along with Athens' Craig Moore and Chris Pack, Sayre's Joe Kozemko, Wellsboro's Dylan Prough and Thomas Johnston and Sayre's Nate Williams.
Notre Dame's Hunter Thomas, Troy's Tyler Hodge and Delbert Lewis and Tioga's Peter Simmons are on the second team. Waverly's Cody Marchese and Dylan Gutierrez and Canton's Ben Pepper, Cahse Pepper and Ryan Ball round out the second team.
The third team includes Northeast Bradford's Aaron Pifer, Towanda's Nick Place and Brandon dinelli, Sullivan County's Forrest Jordan, Wyalusing's Chad Johnson and Kye Novak and Tioga's Jake Howland and Eric Zwierlein.
Canton's Emmett Watson, Mansfield's Sam Bohnert, Jason DeHaven and Skye Stiner, Notre Dame's Aaron Carson and Troy's Lucas Havens and Zach Root are on the team, along with Canton's Derek Wilcox, Sayre's Kody Ketter and Wellsboro's Ben Shaw.
There are gold glove winners at each position and Howland won it at catcher, Root at first base, Watson at second base, Skerpon at shortstop, Matt Lee of Waverly at third base and Zwierlein, Champluvier and Ben Pepper in the otufield. Ripic wins it as a pitcher.
The all-rookie team is headed by Wesneski and includes Perry, Pifer, Tinna, Place, Ketter, Troy's Jarod Mattocks, Notre Dame's Parker May, Tioga's Ryan Vergason, Lee, Wellsboro's Brian Doty, Mansfield's Bryce Zaparzynski, Williams, Stivason and Simmons.
