WYSOX - Towanda had 17 hits as they beat Wyalusing 13-6 in NTL Large School baseball action Saturday.
"A good win," said Black Knight coach Bill Sexton. "At this stage of the season all wins are a good win. The kids played well."
Two big innings spurred the Knights as they got six runs in the second as three batters were walked while Charles Watkins, Ryan Bidlack and Dylan Bates had hits.
Bates would go 4-for-4 on the day with two runs and a stolen base.
"Bates had a big day at the plate," said Sexton.
They added another run in the fourth as Nick Place led off with a single. His courtesy runner Dalton Potter would later score in the inning.
Wyalusing came back strong with four runs in the top of the sixth to cut it to 7-6.
However in the seventh the Knights shut the door six runs of their own as Bates and Tristan James led off with back to back hits. After one out Thomas got a hit, then Shane Martin got a hit with two outs to keep the rally going.
Keegan Kisner and Ethan Barto had back to back hits with two outs followed by Place reaching on an error.
Martin was 3-for-4 with two runs and two steals for the Knights.
"I thought Shane Martin had a real solid day for us today," remarked Sexton. "A break out day for him."
Place (2-for-4) had 2-RBI and a double, James (2-for-4) had an RBI while Thomason (2-for-4) had a double, two runs and an RBI.
Kisner added a double with two runs and an RBI while Barto, Bidlack and Watkins also had hits.
Barto scored twice with 2-RBI, Bidlack knocked in three runs while Watkins, Potter and Luke Tama also scored.
"I thought we had some good offense," said Sexton. "Good hitting all up and down the line-up. 17 hits is a good day."
On the mound Place started and went five innings for the win, striking out five while allowing two walks, five hits and two runs, one earned, with two hit batsmen. He improves to 2-3 on the year.
Thomason went the next third of an inning, allowing two hits and four runs, none of them earned.
Bates then came in in the top of the sixth and struck two batters out to get out of the Wyalusing rally. He then struck three of four batters out in the seventh to get the save.
"I was pretty pleased with our pitching," said Sexton. "I thought Place had his best start of the year. Thomason had some hard luck as we made four errors that inning. Bates did a heck of a job coming in for us at the end. He was pitching for the third day in a row, I didn't want to use him today but got forced to in that situation and he pitched very well for us."
Isaac Bennett was 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI to lead the Rams while Holdan Hitchcock was 2-for-3 with 2-RBI.
Skylar Behrend, Ridge Williams and Jon Morrison also had hits.
Devon Carr started and earned the loss while Bennett and Hitchcock also saw action.
