Despite being out hit, Athens was able to pull out a 5-1 NTL win over Cowanesque Valley in NTL baseball action Monday.
The Wildcats mustered three hits to CV's four but made up for it by drawing nine walks.
Athens jumped out 3-0 after the first two innings.
CV cut it to 3-1 in the fourth but Athens tacked on more runs in the fifth and sixth to pull out the win.
Matt Collins was 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI for Athens while Cody Jennings and Daniel Joyce also had hits.
Joe Horn, Justin Reagan and Joe Parshall scored runs while Marc Felt had 2-RBIs. Ryan Kennedy and Cory Stivason also knocked runs in.
Collins started and earns the win, going three innings to strike out three while allowing one walk, three hits and one earned run.
Cody Jennings finished out, striking out five while allowing one hit and one walk.
Tyler Melko was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Colton Vinluan and Connor Calaman also had hits. Calaman's was a double.
Melko scored while Chris Lingle had the RBI.
Caleb Fitzwater started and went the first four innings for the loss. He struck out five while allowing seven walks, two hits and three earned runs.
Jace Bieser pitched one inning, striking out one while allowing one hit, two walks and one earned run.
Vinluan also saw action.
Nate Watkins went 3-for-3 with three runs as the Panthers picked up the NTL baseball win Monday.
Nik Geiser and Roland Pyhtila both had two hits with a double and 3-RBIs. Phytila also scored.
Tyler Emick had two hits with a run scored, Derrick Newman had a double and Garret Smith had a hit.
Smith and Brian Horton both scored while Horton knocked in a run as well.
Horton started and went the first five innings for the win. He struck out three while allowing five hits, four runs and three walks.
Geiser came on for the final two innings and got the save, allowing one hit.
Nathan Swain had two hits with 2-RBI for Troy while Clark Jackson had a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Collin Binford, Tyler Williams and Hunter Cohick also had hits while Binford, Michael Borden and Ja Wallace all scored.
Binford started and went two innings to strike out two while allowing two hits, two runs and a walk.
Kyle Schucker finished out and scores the loss. He struck out five while allowing nine hits, one walk and five runs.
Troy is at Sayre Thursday.
The Black Knights used a 7-run second inning to pull out an NTL baseball win Monday.
"We finally hit the ball with runners on base," said Towanda coach Bill Sexton. "We've been snakebit with getting runners on and not being able to drive them in. We did a real good job with coming up big in the second inning, we had a number of big hits that inning."
The first eight batters reached for Towanda in that inning and the first out was on a sacrifice fly.
Shane Martin had two hits, including a double, two runs, an RBI and a steal, Ryan Bartholomew had two hits, including a double, a run and an RBI and Lars Thomason had two hits, an RBI and a steal.
Ricky Smiley, Bryaden Manchester and Luke Tama also had hits.
Tyler Bidlack, Keegan Kisner, Caleb Lines and Thomas all knocked runs in while Lines, Smiley, Manchester and Brett Crispell scored.
Thomason got the win, going the first four innings to strike out three while allowing two walks, eight hits and six runs, two of them earned.
Lines went the final three innings for the save, striking out two while allowing one walk and one hit.
"I thought we got solid pitching tonight," said Sexton. "Lars didn't have his best stuff but he didn't walk people, he made them earn their way on. He battled. I couldn't be happier for Caleb Lines, he came in the start of the fifth inning and shut them down. One hit over three innings, an excellent outing for Caleb."
Towanda also got two big defensive plays in the outfield.
Martin had a running catch at the wall that saved a home run to end the six innings — "a heck of a catch" Sexton said — and Kisner went from center to right to make a full-out sprint, full extension, diving catch to end the game, catching the ball over his shoulder.
Jake Rice had three hits, a double and a run scored to lead Williamson while Chase Austin had two doubles.
Matt Learn and Wyatt Gorg had two hits, including a double each, as well. Jon Daley also scored a run.
Hunter Sackett started and was relieved in the second inning with Colin Heilbrun going the rest of the way. They combined for three strikeouts and nine walks.
Towanda hosts Waverly today at 4 p.m.
The Redskins pounded out 17 hits as they picked up the NTL win Monday.
James Esposito (3-for-5) had 4-RBI and two runs, Chris Ray (3-for-5) had one run and 1-RBI, Nate Sweet was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs, Jordan Rockwell was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and 2-RBI, Connor Hanafin was 2-for-4 with 3-RBI and a run scored and John Esposito was 2-for-5 with two runs.
Sam Wheeler had a double with two runs and 2-RBI, Matt Williams had a double with two runs and an RBI while Jake Goodrich had a hit and a run scored.
On the mound, John Esposito went six innings for the win, striking out four while allowing six hits and four runs, three of them earned.
Ryan Murrelle pitched the final inning, striking out one while allowing three hits, two runs and a walk.
For Wyalusing, Riley God went 2-for-4 with a home run, double, 2-RBI and a run scored.
Chandler Brown was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Ridge Williams had a double with a run scored while Holdan Hitchcock, Eli Bennett, Cody Jackson and Scott Eberlin also had hits.
Bennett, Zach Bryun and Eberlin all scored while Hitchcock knocked in a run.
Jon Morrison started and went the first five innings for the loss. He struck out two while allowing 12 hits, 10 runs, nine of them earned and three walks.
Mike Wilcox finished out, striking out two while allowing five hits, six unearned runs and one walk.
The Hornets got back to their winning ways with their NTL baseball victory Monday.
Dawson Prough went 3-for-3 with three doubles, three runs and an RBI to lead Wellsboro while James Mundy was 2-for-3 with two doubles and 4-RBI.
Johnny Rowland was 2-for-3 while Dalton Prough, Nick Tremper, Joe Allen, Cam Tennis and Larry Walters also had hits.
Allen went the distance for the win.
"I was pleased with coming back after Saturday's loss," said Wellsboro coach Philip Prough. "The bats came alive and our infield defense played exceptionally well tonight."
Bryce Cole was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead Canton while Jeremiah McClinton and Taylor Acala also had hits.
Mason Martel started and earned the loss while Nate Deegan came on in relief.
Brendyn Stillman was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three runs and 2-RBIs as the Wolverines improved to .500 on the season.
The win gets them to 9-9 on the year.
Peyton Miller was 2-for-3 with a double, 3-RBI and a run scored while D.J. Meyers was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Zach Vanhouten and Nate Bennett both had doubles while Mason Salsman and Dylan Cooney also had hits.
Salsman scored twice while Vanhouten, Bennett and Jason Morales also scored.
Vanhouten, Bennett and Morales each knocked in a run.
Ethan McNaulty started and went six innings for the win, striking out seven while allowing two walks, seven hits and four runs, two of them earned.
Stillman went the final inning, striking out two.
The Crusaders continued to keep pace with Edison on the IAC Large School division with their win Monday.
Ben Cook, Kyle Minchcin and Erik Charnetski led Notre Dame at the plate.
Cook was 3-for-4 with a run scored and 2-RBI.
Minchin was 2-for-4 with a triple, run scored and an RBI while Charnetski was 2-for-4 with a double, 2-RBI and a run scored.
Matt Smith was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, Nate Snavely was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Iman McKay was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Matt LaBadie had 2-RBI with a run scored while Gary Raupers scored a run.
Cook and Snavely combined for seven strikeouts on the day.
Mitchell Taylor allowed just two hits in the Tiger's IAC win.
He struck out 11 and walking one.
At the plate Pierce Hendershot was 3-for-4 with two runs while Tanner Folk had a 2-RBI single and Jake Evanek a 2-RBI double.
Tioga ends the regular season 14-1 and will play in the IAC title game on Thursday at Dunn Field.
