Canton tops Towanda 2-1 in eight inningsTOWANDA — Canton defeated Towanda 2-1 in eight innings to pick up an NTL baseball win Monday.

The Black Knights took a lead in the bottom of the third with a run but Canton answered with a run in the sixth to send it to extra innings.

In the eighth Canton scored the winning run.

Brendon Landis had two hits, a run and a stolen base for Canton while Kaden Martell had a double. Seth Robbins added two hits, Silas Binford had a hit with a stolen base, while Jeremiah McClinton and Michael Smithers each had an RBI.

Nate Deegan started for the Warriors and got a no decision. He went three innings to allow two hits and one earned run.

Smithers pitched the final five for the win, striking out three while allowing two walks and three hits.

Keegan Kisner, Lars Thomason, Tyler Bidlack, Zane Neubert and Tanner Kunkle each had a hit for the Knights. Kisner had an RBI while Kunkle had a steal and run scored.

Thomason started and went the first five innings for the no decision. He struck out seven while allowing two hits and one walk.

Caleb Lines pitched the next two innings, striking out one while allowing one walk, two hits and one earned run.

Luke Tama threw the final inning and scores the loss. He struck out two while allowing one walk, one hit and one unearned run.

"The kids played well, pitched effectively," said Towanda coach Bill Sexton. "It's just the way the game goes. Not bad, we'll build on this."

North Penn-Mansfield 5, Cowanesque Valley 3

The Tigers scored late in the game to pull out the NTL baseball win Monday.

It was tied at 2-all after the first inning with CV going up 3-2 with a run in the second. It stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth when NP-Mansfield tied it up.

Then in the fifth, the Tigers scored two more to finish the rally.

Carl Dinger was 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead NP-Mansfield while Kip Hillson was 1-for-2 with a double, run scored and an RBI.

JP Shaw, Dylan Williamson and Derrick Herbst also had hits while Brendan Hill, Shaw and Joel Whitteker scored.

Herbst also had two runs batted in with Williamson getting an RBI as well.

Dinger started and went the first six innings for the win. He struck out four while allowing five hits, one walk and three runs, one of them earned.

Levi Adams came on in relief for the save, striking out two in the seventh.

Kurtis Easton had a triple with a run scored and an RBI to lead CV while Owen Fitzwater had a double. Caleb Fitzwater and Jace Bieser also had hits with Fitzwater scoring a run.

Wynn Doan added an RBI while Christian Kemp scored a run.

Caleb Fitzwater went the first five innings for CV and scores the loss. He struck out four while allowing five walks, four hits and five runs, none of them earned.

Chris Lingle pitched one inning, striking out one.

Sayre 7, Athens 1

The Redskins jumped out early as they defeated their Valley rivals in NTL baseball action Monday.

Sayre led 3-0 after the first inning with Athens cutting it to 3-1 in the bottom of the third. The Redskins scored twice in the fourth and sixth to get the win.

Matt Williams was 3-for-4 with a run scored and 3-RBI and Sam Wheeler was 2-for-5 with two runs to lead Sayre while Quinn Hanafin had a double with a run scored and 2-RBI.

John Esposito was 1-for-4 with a run scored while Connor Hanafin had a double with a run scored. Jake Goodrich had a hit, Chris Ray scored a run and John Cron knocked one in.

Esposito started and went 3 1/3-innings for the win, striking out three while allowing four hits, two walks and one earned run.

Williams finished out, striking out seven while allowing two hits and one walk.

Ryan Kennedy and Marc Felt both went 2-for-4 to lead Athens with Kennedy scoring their run. Joe Horn and Andy Rosenberger also had hits while Cody Jennings got an RBI.

Felt started and scores the loss, going 1-inning to strikeout one while allowing four hits, two walks and three earned runs.

Horn went the next five with three strikeouts, four walks, two hits and two unearned runs. Joe Parshall pitched the seventh with two strikeouts, two hits, one walk and two earned runs.

Waverly 9, Notre Dame 2

WAVERLY, N.Y. — Waverly pounded out eight hits as they got an IAC win over their rivals in baseball action Tuesday.

Nate Bennett was 2-for-3 with a double, 2-RBI and a run scored to lead the Wolverines while Bradey Roney was 2-for-4 with tow runs and an RBI.

Zach VanHouten had a double with two runs and 2-RBI, Hunter Bodine had a double with 2-RBI and Brandyn Stillman had a double with a run scored.

Dylan Cooney, Cole Jenner and Paul Girolamo scored runs while Jason Morales added an RBI.

Roney went the distance in the win, striking out seven while allowing four hits, two walks and two runs — one of them earned — on 89 pitches.

Matt Smith was 2-for-3 for Notre Dame while Gary Raupers had a double with a run scored.

Hunter Homerda had a double with an RBI while Erik Charnetski scored and knocked in a run.

Ben Cook started and scores the loss, striking out three while allowing four hits, five walks and four earned runs in four innings of work and 78 pitches.

Iman McKay went the next 1 2/3-innings with one strikeout, three walks, three hits and five unearned runs. He threw 40 pitches.

Dylan Treat went the final third.

Wellsboro 6, NEB 1

The Hornets held NEB to just one hit in the NTL baseball win Monday.

Carson Davis had three hits and an RBI for Wellsboro while Billy Lechler had two hits with an RBI and a run scored.

Caleb Tennis had two hits with a run scored while Dalton Prough, Cam Tennis, Taynton Repard and Silas Wagaman also had hits.

Prough scored twice while Cam Tennis and Parker Mann also crossed home.

Johnny Rowland started and went four innings while Davis pitched two and Prough threw in the seventh. They combined for eight strikeouts.

Nate Watkins had NEB's hit while Derrick Newman scored and Max Cooper had the RBI.

Grant Allis started and scores the loss, going 2 1/3-innings to allow five hits, one walk and three unearned runs.

Ian Wilbur went 1 2/3-innings with three strikeouts, two hits and one unearned run.

Watkins pitched an inning with two walks, one hit and one strikeout, Tyler Devonshire went an inning and Nate Chilson went an inning with three strikeouts, three hits, one walk and two earned runs.

NEB hosts Troy on Wednesday.

Tioga 25, Candor 2

Tioga's Parker Hendershot went 5-6 with two doubles, three runs and four RBI's to lead Tioga to their 25-2 win over Candor on Monday.

Pierce Hendershot went 4-4 with two doubles, four runs and three RBI's; Damon Rockwell added one double, three runs and four RBI's; Tyler Whitmore had a triple, one run and three RBI's; Nick Klossner finished with one double, three runs and one RBI; Gabe Martin contributed one double, four runs and one RBI; Hugh Singer went 3-4 with one double, three runs and two RBI's; Derrick Bardo had three runs and one RBI; and Justin Rockwell had one run.

Whitmore started the game for Tioga, pitching two innings with four strikeouts, two walks, one hit and no runs allowed. Damon Rockwell relieved him in the third and pitched for two innings, striking out two, allowing two hits and no runs. Justin Rockwell threw the last two innings striking out three batters, walking four and allowing two earned runs.

Tioga takes on Spencer Van Etten next on Wednesday at home.
