Sayre tops North Penn-Mansfield 7-6 in extra innings walk-off.

The Hanafin brothers came up big for Sayre in their 7-6 win over North Penn-Mansfield in 8 innings Friday in NTL baseball action.

In the bottom of the eighth Connor Hanafin walked to lead off. His brother Quinn Hanafin then hit him home on a double to give Sayre a much needed win.

The Redskins were 0-2 in their last two NTL games and had fallen behind CV in the standings for the Division-II title. Sayre's win coupled with CV's loss to Wellsboro puts the Redskins up half a game now.

On the other side the loss hurts NP-Mansfield's chances of wresting control of the Division-I title from Athens. The Wildcats have won three straight division titles.

This is the Tigers' second league loss and puts them one game back of the Wildcats in the loss column. NP-Mansfield fell to Athens earlier in the season who have also lost to Sayre.

NP-Mansfield will have a chance to even things up when they play Athens again, provided neither team loses before then.

Sayre was up big, 5-1, thanks to a 4-run first innings but the Tigers roared back in the fifth with a 5-run inning to take a 6-5 lead. Sayre got a run back in the bottom half of the fifth to knot it up and to extra innings they went.

Quinn Hanafin, Sam Wheeler and Jordan Rockwell all went 2-for-4 on the day. Quinn Hanafin had two doubles and 3-RBI, Rockwell scored three times and Wheeler once.

Nate Sweet had a double with a run scored and 2-RBI while Connor Hanafin and Jon Cron also had hits. Connor Hanafin scored twice and knocked two runs in as well.

Sweet started and went the first five innings, striking out one while allowing six hits, three walks and six runs, four of them earned, on 93 pitches.

John Esposito finished out and got the win. He allowed three walks and two hits but no runs on 38 pitches in three innings.

Brendan Hill was 3-for-5 with 2-RBI and a run scored to lead the Tigers while Dylan Williamson (2-for-5) had an RBI.

Kipp Hillson, Joel Whitteker and Dewey Wise each had a double. Dylan Wesneski scored twice while JP Shaw, Nathan Mahonski and Wise also crossed home.

Williamson, Hillson, Carl Dinger and Whitteker each had an RBI.

Dinger started and went 6 1/3-innings on 92 pitches. He struck out one while allowing eight hits, no walks and six runs, three of them earned.

Derrick Herbst went two-thirds of an inning to finish out the seventh on two pitches. Hillson pitched the eighth and scores the loss as he gave up the winning run without registering an out.

Athens 10, Wyalusing 0, 6 innings

Luke Newman went 3-for-4 with a double as the Wildcats continued their strong play as of late in NTL Division-I baseball action Friday.

Newman had a double, a run scored and an RBI while Cody Jennings was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI.

Joe Horn had two hits with an RBI while Kaden Rude had a double with an RBI.

Matt Collins, Marc Felt, Cory Stivason and Justin Reagan also had hits.

Stivason scored twice while Ryan Kennedy, Collins, Felt, Nate Kennedy and Reagan also crossed home.

Collins, Felt, Daniel Joyce, Rude, Horn and Reagan each had an RBI as well.

Joe Parshall started and earns the win. He went 2 1/3-innings with one strikeout, four hits and four walks.

Felt went the rest of the way, striking out five while allowing just a hit.

Joe Wheeler was 2-for-4 to lead Wyalusing while Holdan Hitchcock, Chandler Brown and Brandon Brown also had hits.

Chandler Brown started and went the first five innings for the loss. He struck out one while allowing nine hits, two walks and eight earned runs.

Mason McGroarty pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing three hits and two earned runs.

Wellsboro 12, Cowanesque Valley 0, 5 innings

Wellsboro defeated CV 12-0 in five innings in local baseball action on Friday.

Billy Lechler led the Green Hornets with three hits and three RBI. He also pitched five shutout innings, allowing only one hit and striking out four.

Dalton Prough had two runs, two stolen bases, two hits and two RBI, Cam Tennis finished with one run, two hits and two RBI, Lucas Citrino had one run, Carson Davis had one hit, Caleb Tennis finished with one run and a double, Brent English added two runs and one hit, Johnny Rowland had two runs, three hits, two stolen bases and one RBI, Parker Mann had one run, one hit and two RBI and Silas Wagaman finished with two runs.

For CV, Seth Huyler had a walk and a hit. Jace Bieser started pitching for CV, allowing six runs on seven hits. Corey Wells relieved Bieser after three and one third innings and pitched one inning, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits and striking out one. Huyler pitched the last two thirds of one inning, striking out one batter and allowing no runs and one hit.

Edison 4, Notre Dame 3

ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. - Edison edged Notre Dame 4-3 in local New York baseball action on Friday.

For Notre Dame, Ben Cook threw six innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and striking out three.

Gary Raupers, Cook, Iman McKay, Isiah McKay and Hunter Homereda each had one hit for ND and Ryess Youmans had two hits.

Waverly 16, Newark Valley 6

Brendyn Stillman had five runs, three doubles and two RBI to lead Waverly to their 16-6 win over Newark Valley on Friday.

For Waverly, Dylan Cooney had two runs, one hit and two RBI, Mike Shaffer and Paul Girolamo each scored a run, Zach VanHouten had one run, two hits, including a triple, and three RBI, Bradey Roney finished with one run, two doubles and three RBI, Eithan McEnulty added two runs, one hit and one RBI, Hunter Bodine had two runs, a triple and one RBI, Grant Caplan added one run, one hit and one RBI and Jason Morales finished with one hit and one RBI.

Devin Garrison pitched a complete game for Waverly, striking out two and allowing six runs on nine hits and one walk.
