JV Hornets Edge Rival North Penn-Mansfield, 8-7

Wellsboro edged rival North Penn-Mansfield, 8-7, in JV Baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hornets trailed 3-0 after the 1st inning, but put together a 5-run 2nd to take the lead, only to have the Tigers score twice the following inning to tie the game at 5-all. The Tigers then added 2 runs in the top of the 6th to pull ahead 7-5. Wellsboro then added 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th, then held North Penn-Mansfield scoreless in the top of the 7th, to hang on for the win.

Wellsboro had six hits in the game, one each by freshmen Reed Richardson, Griffin Morral Wes Starkweather, and Colton Reese, sophomore Izaya Campbell, and junior Jacob Heckman. Sophomore Syler Pietrzyk, freshman Wyatt Sporer, Richardson, Morral, Reese, Campbell (2) and Heckman all scored while Richardson, Reese, Heckman (2), and freshman Kody Enck (2) drove in runs.

Campbell earned the win from the mound, throwing 2 & 1/3 innings and allowing 2 runs on 2 hits with 7 strikeouts. Freshman Jake Starkweather threw 4 innings, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts. Freshman Gabe Cuneo also threw 2/3 of an inning, striking out two.
