An 11-run 2nd inning led the Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team to an 18-3 non-league win in 3 innings over Coudersport on Saturday.

"Another great effort from the team today," head coach Kyle Smith said. "Our approach at the plate has improved the last few games and the boys are feeding off the energy from the dugout. Today we were able to start hot offensively and Gabe pitched well to earn the win."

Trailing 1-0 at the top of the 1st the Hornets quickly took the lead and never looked back in the bottom half of the inning. Senior Gabe Sprouse tied the game on an RBI single by senior Alec Magli, then a two-run home run by junior Marek Mascho scored Magli, putting the Hornets in front, 3-1.

Later in the inning during freshman Gabe Cuneo's at bat, sophomore Syler Pietrzyk scored on a passed ball followed by senior Ryder Bowen scoring as Cuneo singled to 3rd. A sac fly by sophomore Max Mascho later scored senior Dustin Owlett, giving the Hornets a 6-1 lead after the first.

The visiting Falcons added a run in the top of the 2nd, however Wellsboro's bats remained hot in the bottom half of the inning and exploded for 11 runs.

Magli, Marek Mascho (2), sophomore Coen Tennis, Bowen (2), Cuneo, Owlett, freshman Griffin Morral, Sprouse, Pietrzyk all scored in the inning, to push the lead to 17-2. After another run in the top of the 3rd by Coudersport, the Hornets scored once more in the bottom of the inning, on a Magli single to score Pietrzyk, making it 18-3 and closing out the win for Wellsboro.

Magli finished 3-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs to lead the Hornets while Tennis (2 RBIs) and Bowen were both 2-for-2. Marek Mascho finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Owlett (2 RBIs) and Cuneo also had hits.

Sprouse picked up the win on the mound in three innings of work. He allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts on 57 total pitches.

Wellsboro improves to 5-7 overall and has won 5 of their last 8 games. Wellsboro is on the road Tuesday at Athens.
