JV Baseball Team Splits Doubleheader With Canton

Wellsboro's JV Baseball team split a doubleheader with Canton on Friday afternoon.
"It was good to get a couple games in this week," head coach Kyle Smith said. "There were a lot of positives from the games."
In game one the Hornets fell 1-0 to Canton. The Warriors scored the game's lone run in the 3rd. Freshman Maddon Mascho and sophomore Kody Enck recorded the Hornets' two hits in the game as they both went 1-for-3 at the plate. Junior Izaya Campbell, sophomore Griffin Morral and freshman Gage Baltzley split time on the mound. Campbell and Baltzley both threw two innings and Morral threw one.
Campbell struck out 4, walked 2 and surrendered a hit. Baltzley struck out six and Morral struck out 3, walked one and allowed a run.
In game two the Hornets flipped the script and unleashed 8 runs for an 8-0 shutout.
The Hornets scored twice in the 1st, five times in the 2nd and once in the 3rd. Sophomore Colton Reese led the Hornets at the plate, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Mascho, sophomore Wyatt Sporer, Enck, and junior Braxton Kerr all had solo hits and Sporer (2), Enck, and Kerr (3) all drove in runs.
Reese, Mascho and sophomore Gabe Cuneo all shared time on the mound. Mascho and Cuneo threw two innings each and Reese threw an inning, striking out one and walking three. Cuneo struck out 5 and Mascho struck out one, walked one, and gave up one hit.
Wellsboro (1-1) hosts Troy on April 15 in a stand-alone game.
